Using Weber carburetors

Subject: 2bbl Weber conversion

Hey all...

Been out of the loop for a while, but starting again on the '66 v100.

First thing I need to do is replace the carb...Thought about ripping the intake manifold and carb off an Aspen, but couldn't find one and also my existing manifold is so nice and clean, already been blasted and repainted.

So I happened to run across a mini conversion kit that's basically taken from the ones made for Jeeps. It's a manifold adapter plate, boxed Weber Downdraft 2bbl 32/36 and air cleaner. Looks pretty easy to put in and don't have to worry about the donor carb being a piece of...y'know. You can check it out at http://www.prolinefuel.com/1bbl.html - It's $339, a little steep but I think worth it.

When I'm not working on my '60 V-200, I'm working on my daily driver, which is a 1971 Saab 96 V4. I have made a Weber conversion on this engine and it responded quite well.

I was able to dig up a two barrel manifold for the engine (pretty rare) and I ordered a new 32/36 DGEV (electric choke) Weber for it. The carb ran beautifully. Lots of power, very smooth, much better than the original FoMoCo single barrel carb that came with the car.

Now, I have moved on and located a VERY RARE cross ram intake manifold for the Saab V4 (similar in design to the full size MoPar 413 wedge head induction of 1963) that will run dual Weber 40 DCOE side draft carburetors. Should be good for 150 ponies from the V4 (original output, only 60! But I've modified the engine heavily in addition to the induction system!)

I strongly recommend anything Weber. The quality is unsurpassed, and they work as beautifully on a domestic car as they do on foreign. Far better than any Holley, in my honest opinion. Also, they are infinitely tuneable for whatever driving characteristic you want to dial in. I wanted excellent acceleration and top speed in my Saab, and that is what I got.....also with 31 MPG highway! My advice is put that carburetor on your Valiant.
